Introduction

Owning or caring for a horse or pony, can be enjoyable and very rewarding but there are lots of responsibilities, hard work, and expense that go with this rewarding past time. This commitment should be looked into very carefully, before getting your horse or pony.

Horses and ponies require special care and attention every day off the year, And this care must be provided what ever the weather. They must be put first, how ever many other jobs you have to do. You must always allow plenty of spare time for looking after these animals, they require a lot of attention.

It is good to have basic Knowledge about horses and ponies, before taking on the responsability off one of these animals, if you know some one,who has a horse or pony, ask them for advice on keeping them, or even better ask if you can help out for a while, or even go to a livery yard and ask to help out there, people will always be glade to help out and show you the correct way to look after these animals. Also be carefull, make sure when you get your advice that it is comming from some one who knows what they are talking about, as bad advice can also be found easily.

There are also many very good books you can buy and read up on about horses and ponies, it is better to have plenty of knowledge about the animal you are thinking about taking on. Also advice can be got from the RSPCA, and other Horse rescue centers, they are only too pleased to give advice new owners and experienced owners alike, as we do not want to see the animals suffering due to lack of knowledge or through poor advice given.
